Instructor Gene Wisniewski received his art education at the New York Academy of Art, The National Academy of Design, The New School, and L’Ecole Albert Defois in Vihiers, France. He has exhibited in galleries nationwide, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. He has twenty years’ experience teaching and lecturing on visual art, and is the author of The Art of Looking at Art, released October 4, 2020 by Rowman and Littlefield publishers, an academic press based in Maryland. He is available for private engagements.

“Hand this book to anyone who says, ‘I don’t get art.’ When they read this, they will get art from the first scratch on a cave wall to the latest disturbance in the habitual look of things. This deeply researched, clearly argued, and delightfully written history of art is two impossible things: a primer and an encyclopedia. You can read it as an ode or an elegy, but whether a believer or a doubter, you will be informed, entertained, and inspired.”

Andrei Codrescu, author of “No Time Like Now: New Poems” (Pitt Poetry Series, 2019)

“…an entertaining and thought- provoking introduction to the world of art…Highly recommended.”

THE SIX-HOUR ART MAJOR: A CONCENTRATED SEMIINAR IN VISUAL ART

FUTURE DATES TBA

While you won’t walk away with an actual diploma, this engaging yet highly informative seminar DOES offer mini-versions of the essential courses included in the typical art major. Besides Art History and Art Appreciation, there are hands-on drawing exercises that demonstrate the thought processes and techniques behind making a piece of art, and a general discussion on developing creativity. NO PREVIOUS ART EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED. Featuring over 250 works of art.
